Intro

Convex wanted their launch video to stand out, not just look good. Instead of a typical product reveal, we built the whole piece as a throwback to 80s corporate training videos and infomercials. One of the founders became the on-camera star, dressed in a suit with thick, tacky glasses, playing the part completely straight. We matched the era's speech patterns, transitions, and filming style, then layered in VHS overlays to sell the look. The result was a launch video that felt more like a found relic than an ad.

Objective

The goal was to give Convex a launch video that people would actually remember and want to share, using nostalgia and humor instead of a standard product pitch. Every choice, the delivery, the pacing, the visual style, was built to sell the bit while still getting the product's message across clearly. It had to be funny and committed enough to work as a parody, but polished enough to still function as a real launch piece.

Challenge

Pulling off a convincing 80s parody meant getting the details right, not just the concept. We rented old computer monitors, floppy disks, and other period accessories to build a set that actually looked like the era instead of a vague approximation. The founder also had to fully commit to the performance, stiff delivery, dated phrasing, and all, which is harder to sell than it looks. Balancing the comedy with a real product message meant the video needed to be funny first, but still walk away with people understanding what Convex actually does.

Result

The final video gave Convex a launch that looked and felt nothing like their competitors. The 80s training video concept made the product memorable on its own, turning what could have been a standard announcement into something people wanted to watch and share. Between the VHS overlays, the props, and the founder's performance, the piece had the specificity to actually land as a parody, while still doing its job as a launch video. It was a standout way to introduce a product and get people talking.
